We’re “Growing” Leaders in our Community
Leaders of the Future Class for 2020/2021 was picked and we were on our way until the Covid. With that being said we have offered this Class to be a part of next years Class and they all agree. Below we are going to put the names of the Students that will be with us again next year and we look forward to having a bigger and better year in 2021!
The Leaders of the Future Program is patterned after adult leadership programs in Kentucky and tailored for aspiring young leaders in our community, helping students understand the ties existing between education, careers and the community. The goal of the program is to nurture an appreciation of the community and a desire to contribute to its future prosperity. Through participation in the program, these students and future community leaders will be better prepared to make crucial decisions that affect not only their lives, but also the quality of life in their community. Other youth-oriented programs such as Service Learning, Tech Prep, Work Ethic Seal, and School-to-Work have increased the emphasis on the decision-making process for students of this age group.
Leaders of the Future targets students in the eighth and ninth grades from the Barren County and Glasgow Independent School Systems. Each year, a number of students are selected from these school systems to participate in the program. A committee ofLeadForward alumni evaluates the applications based on a pre-determined set of criteria. Each section of the application is assigned a point value and the total number of points determines the students selected from each school.
The program falls under the auspices of LeadForward, Leadership Glasgow-Barren County’s alumni association. The Leaders of the Future Steering Committee provides guidance, secures funding, finalizes program details and oversees the monthly sessions.
